As I saw this episode on Manga Scans, I got really sad since this is the episode where Kakashi Sensei dies. As you can see I am not just a fan of Naruto, but I love the entire plot. So I kinda have an emotional attachment to all the characters from Konoha.
Well going back to the episode, I think this episode was really one of the showcase of Pain's (actually Nagato) dominating power. His attack on Konoha was devastating. He could annihilate the entire village with just the six persons of Pain through the Rinnegan. In fact, even the amazing Jutsu that Kakashi threw at him were completely deflected with his "Bunsho Tennin No Jutsu".
Actually with the combine power of Choji and Choza's Unit, they were still no match to the God Realm of pain. Hence after the brutal fight with Pain, only Choji was left to fully survive. Since his father Choza blocked Pain's attacks just to protect Choji. Although Kakashi still had something left in him, he choose to use his Mangekyou Sharingan to transfer the rocket pursuing Choji.
Choji went directly to report Lady Tsunade's office regarding the weakness of Pain's God Realm level. Important note that this weakness was what made Naruto their match (watch for the coming episodes). So remember Pain's weakness - 5 second interval before he can use his jutsu again.
